The purpose of the Senior Services Department is to enhance the quality of life for older adults in Stanly County by providing a range of services, programs, supports, and opportunities for adults 60 years old and older.
Programs and Services include:
- Educational and Social Programs
- Fitness and Health Programs
- Enrichment and Skills Classes
- Day and Overnight Trips
- Senior Games & Silver Arts
- Employment Opportunities
- Title V Senior Employment Program
- Information and Assistance
- Congregate Nutrition
- Nutritious and delicious mid-day meal, along with daily educational and recreational programs at four sites in the county. These four sites are located at Albemarle, Norwood, Oakboro, and Locust.
- Home Delivered Meals
- Available to eligible home-bound adults and are delivered by volunteers each week-day.
- In-Home Services
- Home management assistance, limited personal care, and short-term relief for unpaid caregivers to eligible senior adults.
- Family Caregiver Support Program
- Information and assistance, help in receiving services, education events, short-term respite, and supplemental services (such as incontinence supplies) to eligible caregivers of older adults.
- The Senior Center hosts an annual caregivers fair.
- Transportation
- SCUSA provides transportation to medical appointments, shopping, human services agencies, and nutrition sites.
- Other Services:

- Free reassurance phone call and daily contact to senior adults who live alone and desire this added sense of security.
- Tax Aides
- Free income tax preparation for older adults during tax season.
- SHIIP–Senior Health Insurance Information Program
- Volunteers give seniors guidance and counseling on their options with Medicare, Medicare supplements, and long-term care insurance, without pressure, selling tactics, and confusing terms.
- Blood Pressure Checks
- Once or twice a month, free of charge.
- Caregiver Connection Support Group
- Legal Aid
- Free legal advice and assistance. (Appointment needed)
