The Jackson County Department on Aging is a one-stop resource center dedicated to providing services and support to the aging population of Jackson County. Older adults and caregivers can meet social, physical, mental, and some financial needs through programs offered at the Department on Aging.
Programs, services, and facilities include:
- Adult Day Program
- The Jackson County Adult Day Program is a professional service to older adults who are unable to live independently without the supportive care of their family and/or community. The Program supports and provides respite to family units as they continue to house the participant in their home or in the community setting.
- Caring Hands Support Services
- Caring Hands Support Services (CHSS) is a collection of services designed to help seniors remain independent in the community. Trained staff work directly with seniors and caregivers to help them access programs at the Department on Aging and to link them to other services in the community.
- The Caring Hands Support Services include Information and Assistance, Lending Closet, Options Counseling, Project Lifesaver (supporting families and protecting seniors that wander
due to cognitive impairment), and more.

- Cashiers Senior Center
- The Cashiers Senior Center provides a broad range of activities and services for seniors living in the southern area of Jackson County.
- The site provides nutritious lunches, Meals on Wheels, social activities, arts & crafts, health promotion, field trips, and more.
- Jackson County Transit provides transportation for those who are not able to drive.
- Jackson County Senior Center
- The Jackson County Senior Center is located at the Department on Aging facility and offers daily activities and services to promote health and wellness, socialization, and learning for the older adults of Jackson County.

- C.A.R.E. / F.I.R.E.
- C.A.R.E. (Community Action to Reach Elderly) provides safety modifications for low income elderly, homebound seniors and other qualifying persons in Jackson County.
- F.I.R.E. (Fuel Intervention for Rural Elderly) is a program at the Department on Aging that cuts, splits, and delivers firewood to low income seniors who depend on firewood for their primary heating and/or cooking fuel.
- Medicare SHIIP
- SHIIP is a program where trained counselors answer questions and counsel Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans, long-term care insurance and other health insurance concerns. The counseling is completely non-biased and is offered at no cost to the beneficiary.
