The Cherokee/Clay County Senior Games & SilverArts organization was launched in 2007 with the first Senior Games taking place in 2008. We are a non-profit organization (501-C3) sanctioned by the North Carolina Senior Games, Inc., which began in 1983 with a vision to create a year-round health promotion and education program for North Carolinians 50 years of age and better. Today, they continue to share this vision in Cherokee and Clay counties along with the other 52 Local Games programs that serve 60,000 participants in all 100 counties across the state.
Senior Games promotes and encourages seniors to stay fit in body, mind and spirit while enjoying the company of friends, family, spectators, and volunteers. You can choose from over 40 athletic events like Track and Field, Swimming, Pickleball, Tennis, Cycling and more! And you don’t need to be an “athlete”. Come join them and play Bocce ball, Horseshoes, Shuffleboard, Cornhole, Table Tennis, Golf and Bowling because their goal is simple – “Fun, Fitness, Fellowship and Family.”
In addition to athletic events they offer a SilverArts competition. This is a “Celebration of the Creative Expression of Seniors”. You can choose from over 35 Artistic categories to participate in including Photography, Painting, Dancing, Singing, Writing, Woodworking, Quilting and Pottery just to name a few!
The Cherokee Senior Games local competitions serve Cherokee, Clay and Graham counties where competitors must be resident for a minimum of three (3) consecutive months and must be 50 years of age or better on or before December 31 of the current year.
