Cabarrus County Active Living and Parks

Categories: Educational Program, For Children, For Seniors, Healthy Aging, Kids, Physical Activity, Prevention
Format: Volunteer Opportunities
County: Cabarrus

Active Living and Parks uses fitness, wellness and education to improve the quality of life for Cabarrus County residents. The County operates four parks and two active living centers, each with unique amenities. Features include the area’s first mountain bike course and skills trail, tennis courts, miniature golf course, paddle boats, softball and soccer fields, swim pool, nature and bike trails, outdoor fitness equipment and fishing ponds.

The County also offers a variety of classes and clubs for all levels of activity. There are also special events just for those who are 50-plus, including dances with live bands, holiday celebrations, health screenings, talent shows and educational sessions.

Rent one of our facilities, which include athletic fields, community rooms, dog run, climate-controlled cabins, tent sites, group camping sites, shelters and a two-story barn facility.

Cabarrus offers many low-cost classes, camps and workshops year round. Connect with the outdoors while participating in hands-on programs geared toward nature, conservation, sustainability and environmental stewardship education.

The junior ranger program offers free nature education to local students in the classroom and through field trips to their parks. Scout troops are also encouraged to ask about merit badge programs at their parks.

In addition to one-time classes, Active Living and Parks offers spring break and summer day camps

Senior Centers

The centers provide recreational, educational and wellness activities as well as client services and outreach for older adults, adults with disabilities and their families. Located in Concord and Mt. Pleasant, the centers are places where seniors can gather to meet friends for a game of cards, billiards, shuffleboard and more; participate in a variety of classes and clubs; or enjoy dances, holiday celebrations, health screenings and special events.

The Senior Center in Concord is certified by the State of NC Division of Aging and Adult Services as a Center of Excellence.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities are available in several programs to provide support to our staff and the participants that we serve. These volunteers not only assist with Senior Center sponsored programs and events but also with other local agencies and organizations that need help.
