Senate Health Care Plan Released: Would Make the Most Vulnerable More So

June 22, 2017 · by Aleta Payne, Former Deputy Executive Director

Members of the United States Senate have released their proposed health care plan, all 142 pages of the “Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017” developed in secrecy, with a score from the Congressional Budget Office expected early next week.

Meanwhile, we know it will reduce Medicaid significantly more than the House bill while cutting taxes for the nation’s wealthiest. A plan that endangers the vulnerable while benefitting the powerful goes against our most fundamental beliefs as people of faith.

As experts analyze the bill’s potential impact, calls to Senators Tillis and Burr are critically important. The Senate may rush a vote as early as next week, so please let our Senators hear from you on a daily basis. There is still time to influence the direction of health care, and a substantial portion of this nation’s economy, but only if you speak out.

Senator Tillis can be reached at 202-224-6342, and Senator Burr’s number is 202-224-3154.

In addition, Triangle residents are invited to phone bank on Thursday, June 22 in one of three locations: Carrboro, Durham, and Raleigh.

Please let our Senators hear from you on this critical justice issue. Let them know you are concerned for yourself and for all our sisters and brothers.
