The passage of the American Health Care Act by the House of Representatives reflects a political choice on a life-or-death matter. If House members truly believed that this was the best possible plan, they could have held hearings and waited for a new score from the Congressional Budget Office. Supporters would not have been blaming people for being sick or suggesting they move states if they want different coverage. We are better than this.

As followers of Christ, we model our lives on a healer of the sick who called us to love one another as we love ourselves. All of this runs counter to the notion that some people should be able to afford health care while others are left to suffer and die.
