About Monica Motley, Former Director, Partners in Health and Wholeness

As a native of Danville, Monica has developed a personal understanding of the many barriers people face to lead and sustain healthy lives. A recent MPH graduate and former research assistant with the Virginia Tech Department of Population Health Sciences, Monica is currently completing a doctorate in Biomedical and Veterinary Science. Specifically, her dissertation research aims to identify, understand, and enhance the capacity and readiness of faith- based organizations implementing lifestyle-related health and wellness programs via collaborative partnerships. Her academic and professional background has taught her how to leverage public health research, community engagement, and social justice approaches as complimentary methods that can result in more effective, creative, and translational solutions for complex health issues. As a result, Monica has held various leadership roles with organizations such as the Danville Regional Foundation, Dan River Partnership for a Healthy Community, The Point Foundation, National Black Justice Coalition, God’s Storehouse, Virginia Tech Diversity Scholars and now NCCC Partners in Health in Wholeness.
