Program Director for Partners in Health and Wholeness
Position Description
Hours: Full-time, program-level position, based in Raleigh and requiring some in-state travel
Reports to: Executive Director
Salary: $52,000 – $58,000, depending on experience and qualifications
Benefits: Excellent vacation/leave time. Health insurance (50% paid by employer), short-term disability (100% paid by employer), and reimbursement of approved travel expenses
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Director will have principal responsibility for the North Carolina Council of Churches’ Partners in Health and Wholeness (PHW) initiative, which is designed to promote health and wellness in North Carolina through the NCCC’s statewide ecumenical network. Through this initiative, the NCCC will 1) encourage people of faith to see health issues as faith issues, 2) mobilize faith communities to take preventive and proactive measures that promote health and well-being, and 3) increase collaboration on health ministry initiatives. Specific work will include:
Program Responsibilities
- Overseeing the Partners in Health and Wholeness initiative of the NCCC.
- Hiring (in keeping with the NCCC’s hiring procedures) other PHW staff and supervising their work.
- Managing PHW grant funding, including writing grants, meeting with funders, and preparing required reports.
- Overseeing the PHW certification process and communicating with congregational liaisons.
- Serving as a liaison on health-related issues between the NCCC and its judicatories; congregations; health partners; and non-profit, for-profit, governmental and funding organizations.
- Convening stakeholders in faith-based health initiatives, helping to build a North Carolina faith and health coalition.
- Developing faith and health messaging that 1) supports the concept that health and wholeness are inextricably linked to faith and are essential to a socially just society, and 2) promotes congregation-level commitment to health. Communications channels include a website and print materials that reflect these concepts.
- Communicating with judicatory heads, pastors, and other faith leaders to enlist their support for promoting health and wellness through their congregations.
- Arranging and attending meetings related to faith and health programming, including a regularly held PHW Faith and Health Summit.
Administrative
- Managing budgets related to the PHW program and overseeing the distribution of mini-grants through PHW.
- Attending NCCC Governing Board meetings (four per year).
- Assuming other tasks as requested by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Excellent writing, speaking, and relational skills
- Excellent project management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with others
- General agreement with the NCCC’s mission for Christian unity and social justice
- Four-year college degree
Preferred:
- Affiliation with a faith community that is part of the NC Council of Churches and familiarity with other NC faith communities
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in public health or other health-related discipline (strongly preferred)
- Graduate degree in social work, religion, theology, or a related field
- At least three years’ experience working in the faith and health movement
- Successful experience with grant writing and budget management
- Experience in supervising staff
- Skilled with Office Suite, social media and CMS-based website maintenance
