PHW Success Story – Ebenezer Missionary Baptist, Wadesboro

March 28, 2014 · by Willona Stallings, Former Program Coordinator – Partners in Health & Wholeness

Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Wadesboro kicked off the New Year with a renewed focus on healthy living as a practice of their faith. To illustrate, they provided “Go Red” gift bags to women highlighting the importance of different health tests like blood glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, and bone mineral density. They also launched a Biggest Loser challenge with 25 active participants.

During the past month, Ebenezer Missionary Baptist has focused on diabetes education and screening. In April, they will host a “Pink Sunday” worship service, drawing attention to the importance of monthly self-breast exams and annual mammograms for women age 40 and over.

Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church – under the pastoral leadership of Tony Barr, Sr. and PHW Liaison Sarah Dean – acknowledges that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and that we can lead healthier, more fulfilling lives by being more physically active; eating nutritious, well-balanced meals; and not using tobacco products.
