For any of us trying to lose weight or to maintain a healthy weight, the weeks from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day are the hardest of the year. All that good food and drink; all the busy-ness and stress of the season; all the memories, both joy-filled and sad; even the shortness of days at the end of the year – all combine to encourage us to eat less healthily than we know we should and to be less physically active.
Eat Smart Move More of NC is again inviting people to participate in the Holiday Challenge. I took part last year, and I’ve just signed up again for this year. You get daily tips and weekly newsletters. Today’s newsletter included suggestions on how to eat out during the season without eating unhealthily, and it also had some great looking recipes (even one with BACON!). There’s also access to a calorie counter, a food log, and other resources. And support from others taking part in the Holiday Challenge is available through blogs, Facebook, and Twitter.
