PHW was recently awarded a two-year implementation grant from the John Rex Endowment to promote breastfeeding in low-resource congregations in Wake County. Marnie Cooper Priest, a native of Maine and a Certified Professional Midwife, will oversee this work.
Marnie earned a Masters in Global Health from Duke University, successfully managed a midwifery practice for over 18 years, and has held the following leadership positions: NC Midwives Alliance State Representative to the Midwifery Joint Committee of the NC legislature; president of Midwives of Maine; and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Vestry member, youth leader and educator. She has even provided volunteer training to traditional midwives in Haiti on breastfeeding promotion and life-saving skills.
Marnie is a tremendous asset to the Council and PHW! Please join us in welcoming her to our team. To learn more about Marnie and her work, please visit the PHW staff page.
