PHW Update: New Funding Opportunity for Congregations

February 15, 2013 · by Willona Stallings, Former Program Coordinator – Partners in Health & Wholeness

The NC Council of Churches is happy to announce a new partnership with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC Foundation to increase access to healthy, local food through the distribution of Healthy Eating Equipment grants in select parts of the state.

The grants can be used to support any work around food access, such as the purchase of a commercial refrigerator or freezer, materials for a garden or a vehicle for food transport. Each grant is limited to $5,000 for one year and must show a direct correlation between the equipment purchased and an increase in healthy food access.

The deadline to apply is 5:00 p.m. on March 25, 2013.  For more information or to access the application forms online, please visit: http://www.bcbsncfoundation.org/healthy-active-communities/hac-focus-area/equipment-grants/.

A webinar for interested persons will be held on Monday, February 18 from 11am-12pm. To participate, please visit https://bcbsncfoundation.globalmeet.com/hac and follow these steps:

  • Login as a Guest and enter your name and email address.
  • You will be prompted to enter your phone number and the system will call the number you enter to connect you to the audio portion of the webinar.
  • Please plan to log in a few minutes early to ensure your participation in the entire webinar.

The Council is grateful for your efforts to improve the health of God’s people!  To get plugged in to the Council’s faith-based health initiative, Partners in Health and Wholeness, please visit our website: www.healthandwholeness.org.

About Willona Stallings, Former Program Coordinator – Partners in Health & Wholeness

Partners in Health and Wholeness (PHW) connects congregations with existing resources in the community and provides them with the tools necessary (sometimes in the form of mini-grants) to implement healthier practices, policies and programs. I live in Raleigh and enjoy good food, area greenways and bargain shopping.
