SUMMARY:Sacred Conversations: Connecting Faith and Health to Nourish Lives and Empower Communities
DESCRIPTION:Join us May 11 at 11 am as we host Kim Eshleman of Faithful Families.  \nFaithful Families believes that communities of faith are important health advocates\, particularly in communities affected by health disparities or lacking access to crucial resources. That’s why we are here to empower faith communities as they become changemakers in helping their communities thrive – physically\, mentally\, and spiritually. Faithful Families Thriving Communities (Faithful Families) works directly in communities of faith across the country to promote health for individuals\, families\, and local communities. \nWe will share more about our program’s efforts to engage and support communities of faith as they imagine and work toward their goals for healthy congregations and communities\, what we have learned from faith communities making changes to support health\, and dream together about how faith-health partnerships can grow to meet the needs of communities across our state. \n  \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Sacred Conversation: Mental Health Month
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate and kick off Mental Health Month with the Rev. Dr. Garry Crites\, Executive Director of National Alliance on Mental Illness NC (NAMI NC)! Our faith traditions provide some of the greatest tools available for helping those who deal with mental health conditions and their loved ones. Unfortunately\, they also serve as the source of some of the worst stigmas endured by these same dear people. In this session\, we will talk about both the possibilities and the challenges at the intersection between religion and mental health\, and we will discuss how we\, in our faith traditions\, can get it right. We will also learn about the many resources that NAMI NC provides. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Faith and Health Connection: The Science of Water
DESCRIPTION:“Water is the soul of the Earth.” – W. H. Auden \nJoin us for the first of four Environment\, Health and Faith focused Faith and Health Connection events.  For this first Faith and Health Connection: The Science of Water\, we will explore the vital importance of water for life and survival. We’ll be joined by science experts\, Nicole Esch: Director of Crowd the Tap and Dr Caren Cooper: Associate Professor NCSU Forestry and Environmental Resources\, who will walk us through the importance of water locally in North Carolina. Additionally\, we will again ask questions about the role of water in our everyday lives; this time within a scientific framework: “What does it mean if water is not safe for use?” What happens when we care for our communities\, but not everyone has access to clean\, safe\, water? What does it mean to be caretakers of our waters? (Remember Flint)” \nPartners in Health and Wholeness is excited about this new pilot project and offering the opportunity for faith communities to explore the intersections of environment\, faith and health. During this Faith and Health Connection we’ll introduce the team from our partners. They include interns from Shaw University’s Inaugural Citizen Science Internship Program\, as well as the team from NC State University’s Citizen Hub and online citizen science program. Learn more about the mini-grant opportunity for faith communities that participate in the pilot. Citizen Science – NC Council of Churches (ncchurches.org) \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER
