SUMMARY:Cardiac Arrest Awareness for Faith Communities
DESCRIPTION:Cardiac Arrest Awareness for Faith Communities \nThursday\, February 1\, 2024 \n7 p.m. \nJoin us as we learn how to prepare for and respond to cardiac arrest incidences as communities of faith! \nDuke is working on a clinical trial focused on improving cardiac arrest survival in North Carolina. Cardiac arrest is when the heart stops suddenly due to an electrical problem. 356\,000 cardiac arrests happen each year in the United States with only 8-10% of victims surviving after being hospitalized. In the past year\, cardiac arrests occurred in two star athletes\, Damar Hamlin and Bronny James. Duke is partnering with health care systems\, 911\, EMS\, and communities to improve cardiac arrest survival in North Carolina. Dr. Nkiru Osude is a cardiology fellow physician at Duke in Durham North Carolina who will be presenting on cardiac arrest\, what to do after someone has a cardiac arrest\, and how to prepare your congregation for a cardiac arrest. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:PHW 201: PHW Evolving
DESCRIPTION:For 14 years\, PHW has worked to improve health outcomes for all North Carolinians by encouraging faith communities to recognize health as a faith issue. \nOur program has worked by connecting churches to resources and funding for their health ministries\, most frequently through our $1\,000 mini-grants. \nAs PHW grows and evolves\, the ways we encourage our faith communities to recognize health as a faith issue must also grow and evolve. \nThis means our grant program is changing. Many of you have worked with us for over a decade\, and will have lots of questions about how the new grant process works. One thing to keep in mind: just as we are changing now\, we hold open the possibility for more options and changes in the future that expand our program. \nWe are here to explain the new process as simply as possible\, to answer your questions\, and\, as always\, we are here to provide you with the support and resources your health ministry needs to thrive. \n  \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Sacred Conversations: Connecting Faith and Health to Nourish Lives and Empower Communities
DESCRIPTION:Join us May 11 at 11 am as we host Kim Eshleman of Faithful Families.  \nFaithful Families believes that communities of faith are important health advocates\, particularly in communities affected by health disparities or lacking access to crucial resources. That’s why we are here to empower faith communities as they become changemakers in helping their communities thrive – physically\, mentally\, and spiritually. Faithful Families Thriving Communities (Faithful Families) works directly in communities of faith across the country to promote health for individuals\, families\, and local communities. \nWe will share more about our program’s efforts to engage and support communities of faith as they imagine and work toward their goals for healthy congregations and communities\, what we have learned from faith communities making changes to support health\, and dream together about how faith-health partnerships can grow to meet the needs of communities across our state. \n  \nRegister here
